Laptop Recommendation

Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced Laptop for an elderly technophobe who lives in the wilds of Kent and only wants to check his mail, surf , look at pictures sent by the grandchildren and of course contribute on Answerbank!
There is a desk top computer in another part of the house which has a BT router which I understand is necessary.
Sorry for the non-tech language but I am a klutz.
Thanks for any advice.

Any with a sreen of 15" or more and 2gb RAM will suit you very well.
This Toshiba at under 300 looks good.

Although they are often referred to as 'Laptops' it is not advisable to sit with them on your lap as they usually get very hot and also you can block air flow from the vents on the bottom of them. Get a little table and it will be better for useing one when sitting around the house.

A drawing board is also handy to support the laptop if you can leave a bit of air space under it in places. Having used a Toshiba satellite for 3 years with no bother I can recommend the breed.
Just one point. You might like working in this way so much that you end up doing other, more demanding, tasks
Good luck from a fellow grizzly
