Dog Moans Louldly When I Leave Home.
49 Answers
I use to work only on the weekends but recent life changes have convinced me to start doing it during the weekdays. I'll be gone 9 hours 4 days a week. Problem is right after I leave my 10 year old Basset Hound starts moaning doing it for hours on end. I don't really have anyone to hold on to the dog when I work. Anything I can do to ease her so she won't stress out?

Dave // they have Cesar Millan in the USA\\
Anybody who would ever consider taking their dog to Cesar Millan shouldn't have a dog. I wouldn't let him anywhere near mine. He bullies them, hits them, and has no understanding of dog behaviour at all.

I sometimes have to leave my dogs for a longer time than I would like, but they have each other and the oldest boy will howl for about thirty second when I leave, then settles till I come home. Dogs don't have the same concept of time as we do. I would say though that they are pack animals, and none more so than a Basset Hound which were bred to hunt in packs. Therefore my suggestion would be to get another dog, perhaps an older rescue in need of a home. Of course, that could just double the amount of howling which the breed is famous for but at least he wouldn't be lonely while doing it!
