Can Anyone Recommend A Good Free Software For Downloading Videos Off Youtube

I used to download videos off YouTube using RealPlayer but everytime I use it now I keep getting the messag REALPLAYER HAS STOPPED WORKING. I have tried different things mentioned online but have had no luck getting it to work. It used to be really good, so can anyone recommend a good free software?

If you run Firefox there is an addon which does the job nicely.

Saving Youtube videos to your hard drive isn't strictly legal (because of copyright restrictions), so Youtube occasionally change their pages to render video-saving software inoperative (until it's updated to cope with the changes of course!).

I've used the Firefox add-on recommended by ll_billym, with generally favourable results, but I prefer this (largely because it works on all video sites, not just with Youtube, and it seems to be able to handle changes to the way that pages are presented better than most other solutions):
