Just lately when I have asked my PC to do a task - eg. print out a letter, change site on the net, add a picture in publisher etc etc. it makes a real racket in the tower. You know the sort of noise it makes when its starting up - as though thousands of little cogs are going round really fast and then it stops and goes quiet ??? well its making that kind of noise (as if its spinning round and round inside) at a real speed - it does it for about 30 seconds then stops. Do you know what it is please?

That noise is probably your hard drive or you fan, if it has just started making that noise it needs to be checked out, if its your hard drive failing you could lose everything on your PC, start backing up to be on the safe side!!

Good luck

thank you Ratter
It's just the hard drive picking up speed, nothing to worry about, mines been like that for a long time.
Yes Scrambler I think it is the hard drive picking up speed but as it has only recently started making this noise, its a sign of wear, so best get it checked out, better safe than sorry.
