Yesterday Phil the Post brought me a little gift from my local supermarket (I expect a lot of you have received a gift as well) and although I am pleased to have a new tea-towel I am not sure about how useful it will be. It is decorated in stars of orange and red so very cheerful looking however the washing instructions say it has to be handwashed. Not very hygienic I think. I expect if I put it in a hot wash either all the stars will disappear or it will shrink to the size of a postage stamp.

Thoughts please.

Don't use it. Just drape it over the Aga looking clean and fresh.
I haven't received any gifts from supermarkets. Boohoo

How bizarre to have a tea towel that can only be handwashed. I always check towels before buying, so many have 40 degree wash on the label. I prefer a hot wash for towels and tea towels

lol Tilly. I would if I had an Aga. Perhaps I could leave on the back of a kitchen chair - casual like.
Give it to a charity shop. You never know, a passing collector of tea towels might love it.

Like you Barry all towels and tea towels get a very hot wash. I want to know they are clean.
No, not a kitchen chair. That would just look careless. :-)
If you don't do a hot wash regularly you have to do 'maintenance washes' to keep your washing machine working properly - a very hot cycle with an empty machine. That is a waste of water and energy
Question Author
lol Barry. Never heard of 'maintenance wash'. Machine gets used 4/5 times each week. Do you think this is enough?

Oh dear. The back of a chair is about the best I can do. I know in the middle of the table with a vase of Christmassy decs on it. Looking bright and festive. Do you think that would be alright Tilly?

I've never heard of this before.
Wonder if I might get a gift from Tesco with my delivery this afternoon.
Ooh, I'm all excited now.

Fingers crossed for you barsel. Do let us know if you do.
A gift from the supermarket? Whoever’s heard of such delights?
Never look a gift towel in the month...
If it does shrink to the size of a postage stamp it can still be used as a neckerchief for an ant heading for a fancy dress party as a cowboy.
A good few years ago, probably more than ten, we had Asda home delivery for about four months including over the Christmas period.
Every week for about six weeks leading up to Christmas we got a free box of Asda mince pies with the delivery. I like mince pies but got totally sick of them by Christmas Day.
I’d have welcomed a free, hand wash only, yellow and orange tea towel.
You could wrap someone’s Christmas present in it LadyJ, two gifts for the price of one :)
I had a free tea towel from Ocado one Christmas
