I was thinking of having my father's service medal made into a pendant.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Simply finding a matching chain would seem to be all that's really needed:

Anything is possible, it's a question of finding a creative jeweller.
I don't see why not

There seem to be dozens of instructional videos online about how to do it with coins yourself

Thanks, I was wondering if anyone had done anything similar.

It seems a shame to put it away in a box and for it not to see the light of day.

Oh! I thought I would have to have a setting made for it.

Thanks
that's where the creative bit comes in - there used to be an incredible jeweller in Ambleside called Sid Beddall who made a piece for my father to give to my mother. They had been out walking on the Old Man Coniston and found an interesting piece of iron -yrites, aka fool's gold. Sid shaped tree roots in gold around it to make it look like the rock had been locked in by the roots, a real one-off piece.....
What a lovely idea.
yes it is ( possible)
very suitable for Brits ( and Irish) who have a strong cult of the dead
dias de los muertos ( excuse me is that English) being very strong

saw one with her g-father 1914 - which I thought was nice to hang it around her neck and then talk about the old fella

BUT - bear in mind some old bagga will object. medals are personal to the fella and the widow.
Mad russell Crowe wore his to ?Oscar show, and drew squawks of protest over breach of protocol - but it was public and on tv

Thanks everyone
I think it's a lovely idea, but is it practical? I'd be so terrified of losing it on the few occasions I would wear it.

Friend of mine had his relative's medals framed with a picture of him so he saw it every day.

BM I know that thought had crossed my mind too.
Jim did joke that I could put it next to his medal on display!
