Hi Ray, have no experience of the hard drive recorders, but do have Sky+. Amazing, it'll change the way you watch telly forever. Sooooooo handy and you will use it in ways you can't possibly imagine. The idea of going back to the dark ages of video is beyond my comprehension, wouldn't be without sky+. My favourite thing of all is being able to rewind live telly, to catch a line, joke, or peice of footballing action you missed first time round.
Sorry that I can't compare it to the recorders you mention tho.
sky+
we moved recently and went with NTL and boy I miss sky+ soooooooo much
Definately SKY+. Without a doubt! As a previous answer says the ability to rewind live telly is brilliant but the big plus for me is that you can program SKY+ to tape whole series at a touch of a button.
I'm with everyone else, would be completely lost without my sky+. If you already have a premium package your monthly fee won't go up.
I have a Liteon DVD recorder/player with hard drive. (Argos).
These are brilliant and so easy to use.

It supports all Discs and you can record from video recorders / camcorders or off the TV. It will record direct to Disc or to hard drive and from hard drive to disc. It also has Video + for timed recordings.

You can also freeze TV programmes and then continue watching from where you left off.
