Looks like my boiler has lost pressure again so it's going to be a chilly night but luckily we have electric blankets.

I've got someone coming tomorrow to service it so all good.

Just makes me think about those who have completely lost power and are waiting days for it to be fixed. And the homeless who don't even have a roof over their head :o(

Moving it wont be cheap, have to move the gas pipe hot water pipes, drain pipe and central heating pipes. Also you need to be near a drain and the flue will likely have to be changed.

They put them in lofts more and more these days - its easier as generally there is plenty of room. You do need to lag it up well though.

I am wondering why you had to bleed the rad? Does it suffer with this a lot or was some work done recently that allowed some air to get in? Sealed systems generally hold it well with just an occasional top up. Give the Engineer all the facts you can and let him take a good look.

Tigger... re-locating the boiler is quite a job. The boiler itself is easy. It's all the pipework connected to it.
There are six/maybe seven pipes to move.................. plus the flue outlet. And the wiring.

I think it might make sense to have a decent loft ladder fitted. There are some really good ones around. Fitted with handrails etc, they can feel not much more than going up a narrow staircase. :o)))

One of the radiators wasn't heating up properly, YMB. When I bled it, it hissed for a bit before water started coming out. The radiator then started getting hot.

I wanted a wooden one like I had before, Builder, but the hatch isn't big enough. The metal ladder is on rollers so can be pushed back.

When this is over ( the repair), tiggs invest in a fan heater for emergencies. I’m sure someone is going to say they are expensive to run, but they heat up one room quickly,, we do this in an emergency . I hope you have socks, hat, and gloves on :-)

I've got a small portable heater that looks like a radiator but it's pretty much useless when you need to heat a large room. I will get a couple of fan heaters though just in case. I've got no hot water which I think is worse than having no heating.

Feel for you Tiggs. We had a dud boiler on Tuesday due to a frozen pipe. Gas guy did a temporary repair late Tuesday evening.
As Anne suggested, a fan or blow heater is handy. Ours works out at about 90p per hour.

JJ... I guess Tiggs has a combi boiler, so no immersion cylinder.

Re: loft ladder.
If I remember, I believe you have on older type house, so it wouldn't be a great problem to enlarge the loft access.
Even if there isn't enough width available to make it bigger, a new one could be cut somewhere else.
Sorry to keep pestering you with suggestions Tiggs, but it would be a fraction of the cost of moving the boiler.

Something to think about anyway. :o)
