I realise that several people have agreed on 19. I have checked and rechecked my letters several times and am puzzled that I get only 18 Is every time. Can somebody please identify my mistake. The Is I have are as follows:-
Row No Answer No of Is

2 mark phIllIps 2 (The first I is a duplicate of the I in Hide)
3 amIno 1

6 afghanIstan 1
7 ellipsIs 1 (The first I is a duplicate of the second I in Mark Phillips)

14 mIso 1
15 electIve 1
16 prIvate means 1
IonIan 2 (The first I is a duplicate of the I in Earwig)

Apologies in advance for the one I may have missed, but I can't find it.

Brilliant, L-i K. Thank you so much. My wife had completed the puzzle (as she always does) and given it to me for counting (as usual). She had entered MOTH for 34d and, for reasons I can't remember, I failed to check it out. At least it explains why I couldn't find the nineteenth I, (because it wasn't there to be found), and I have learned a salutary lesson!
