Living Alone

Listening to the radio today so many mentions about living alone and being lonely.
Just thinking Living alone and being lonely are not necessarily linked
You can be very lonely even if surrounded my other people or totally content living alone.
Not a question, I know. Just a shared thought.

Remember the 'idea of Christmas' is the festival of consumerism wrapped up in a thin blanket of sentiment'. There are vested interests involved at every level. It's marketing ploy, push the jolly family and present give good times at all costs...and you are somehow lacking if you don't call for it.

There is a lot to be said for living alone - it is probably at times of
illness that it becomes less easy. On the other hand, loneliness will be felt, especially by older people who were part of a social circle in younger days. Agree with Buenchico that an only child can often cope better being on pne's own later in life.

//...My biggest fear at the moment would be ending up in a care home and living with others around. I like people, but don't need people around me all the time. ...//
This is exactly how I feel. Sometimes I envy those who, like you MissT, have a loyal and caring partner. But at this stage in my life I'd not have the patience to share...ive been in my own for 17 years.
Also, I'm not really a people person. So most of the time I'm 'ok'...but sometimes I feel quite lonely, tearful, envious of others and the companionship they have. But I know we can't have it both ways.
Of course it's spoken about more at Christmas because the media is chock-a-block with happy smiling gatherings.

I'm profoundly glad to have Gness here with me, and some very good friends too - I treasure every moment - but that makes me even more aware of the sadness that some people have to endure, especially at this time of year.
I can do nothing practical to help LiK, Rowan and others here who have suffered such loss, but we are both thinking of you and sending virtual hugs and friendship across the interweb.

I like living alone, but have not suffered bereavements to the same extent as others living on this site .
Miss Terious , I don’t know if you have come across this organisation, icusteps.org, but it is run by patients for patients. I always get my students to look at it and read through the patient experiences just to get them to have some understanding of what people go through.

Thank you Campbell. I am in touch with the UK Sepsis Trust. It's a charity with Nurses available to chat with you about all aspects of Sepsis. I talk to a brilliant nurse, Oliver, whenever I feel worried and he's available 5 days a week. He's got many years of experience. They have also sent me a load of info. I got told nothing about post sepsis when I was discharged! Some of the symptoms are very frightening like PTSD. My system is totally out of sync mentally and physically.
