I have a weird mushroom in the garden. It is 7 inches tall with a long white sponge stalk about an inch wide. It has a brown head that has been seeping brown fluid. it smells very strong. Any one know what it is?

Stinkhorn - Phallus Impudicus

Adding to what Postie has said, I would guess that it is indeed some sort of stinkhorn, possibly the dog stinkhorn. Believe it or not, they are edible when young but obviously, no mushroom should EVER be consumed unless you are 100% certain of a positive identification, although you probably don't need to be told that as they pong to high heaven!
