A rare pink diamond dubbed the “Pink Star” has become the world's most expensive gemstone to sell at auction, coming under the hammer in Hong Kong on Tuesday for $71.2m (£57.3m).

Ohhh ..... just beautiful! I love diamonds - and that is a diamond!!

It is lovely, I admit. I keep clicking the link to get another look. The price paid is ridiculous, of course.

Samuraisan, best answer to you for being eminently sensible. A girl after my own heart! Happy birthday. :o)
If it was mine I too would sell it to the highest bidding idiot.

Then probably buy a new fridge freezer.
I think 57 Million would probably by you Antarctica Talbot
I'd get one of those ice making fridge freezers. mazie.

Indeed she was, Tony!!
I've been trying to remember the name of the lucky guy with the cigar, Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell and had to check. For anyone interested it was Charles Coburn (as Sir [Piggy] Beekman) in 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes', way back in 1953.
I have incidentally a picture of myself in a similar position, but modesty prevents me from sharing it.
Wow, what a stunner. I love diamonds too !
It would look even better on a chain around my neck, nestling in the hollow in my throat, matching the colour of my eyes:-))
