Pre-Operative Wash To Use In Shower - Advice Needed

I'm having a small operation in a week or so. I want to do the best job of can of making sure infection is minimised. I've heard that I might be able to buy a body wash to use in the shower before I go into hospital. Seems to me anything you can do to help keep down the risks is worth doing. Can anyone recommend a suitable brand to buy? I know Chlorhexidine Solution is what's used in hospitals, but just wondered if there was a brand I could pick up in a chemist or online that would do the job. Thank you.

I think you are worrying too much. The hospital will swab & kill any microbes.

Have you had your Pre Op assessment yet, if not ask them for some.

Just recently had an op myself and they supplied me with a big bottle of bodywash and told me to use half of it the night before and the rest before I arrived.

Yes. Don't think there's much you can do. Trust them and if you see any signs of infection afterwards, see your doctor.

There is a product called Clinell (wipes) that is for this purpose, you may have to get your local chemist to order it in for you though, failing that you can buy it online easily.

I don't see how there can be, mamya. Sterile doesn't stay that way for long, unless you're in a sterile room. Surely, even getting dressed after would take away any "benefit".

Your vigilance needs to kick in post op - watch who comes towards you and make sure they wash and or change gloves after the previous patient, am sure you will be fine.

My DH was given Hibiscrub to use before his surgery. he had to use it the night before admission day then just prior to the surgery.
