Extra Select Berry Flavoured Suet Pellets
5 Answers
We have been feeding our garden birds with these for some time now but recently I have noticed that many of the pellets are discoloured and clumped together. If I were a bird, I would not want to eat them! The first time I saw this, I contacted Su Bridge, who are the distributors and they sent me a 3kg bag as a replacement. Since then I bought four more 3kg bags but the first one I opened had the same problem. I notice that this product no longer appears on their website and wonder if there is a good reason? Has anyone else had this problem? I don't know whether it is safe to feed to birds or whether it could harm them. Any advice would be gratefully received.

^^^ I was also thinking that suet tends to stick together naturally.
Further, the product does appear to still be on the company's website. (They've added 'Hi Energy' to the description there but it's not actually on the packaging that's in the illustration):

So I feel confident that the product you've bought won't harm the birds.

Hi People, thanks for this. It's not the clumping together that worries me so much; it's more the greenish/grey colouring of some of the pieces. I hope that the birds are smart enough to sort it out for themselves but it is coming up to the mating season (the magpies and pigeons are already doing the displaying etc) and I hate to think of baby birds being poisoned by good intentions. I've been putting out sunflower hearts and worms but I'll take your advice and see if they eat the pink pellets. If they don't, I have 12kg of the stuff to dispose of. Anybody know of alternative things to do with suet pellets?
