If the minimum wage for young people is too high, as some Government advisors seem to be suggesting, what level would encourage employers to recruit more staff?

I think the minimum wage is ridiculous.

Nobody should have to work for £5 or £6, or whatever it is.

It's like slavery.

I know there's no easy solution, and I do understand the problems that would arise if it went up.

But I don't know how employers can live with themselves when they're paying their employees that sort of money.
For many employers it's pay that or go out of business

Many have because it's too high. Many are in effect getting minimum wage or less themselves.
That's a fair point.
I believe it to be outrageous that many employers simply discharge their legal obligations by paying 'minimum wage'........leaving the tax-payer to foot the bill of making it up into a *living wage* via the Tax-credit system.
Wonder how much the people who decided on that figure earn a hour.
