Anyone in Norfolk, Cambs, or Suffolk?
8 Answers
I'm thinking of relocating here (from just outside London and I would be interested to hear what the job prospects might be (nothing special - my aim is to cash in on my house equity, and get a place mortgage free or low mortgage, but I wouls still need a job (supermarket, diy store, postman, etc, etc)
Also, if anyone can give the names and phone nubers of any local papers, it would be appreciated, as I can then get copies to check out jobs and property prices, Ta.

There is high unemployment. We relocated back from London (early retirement)and my son had a hell of a time getting a job.
However property is cheap..but not for much longer .According to some of the property sections in the newspapers East Anglia has the highest rising house prices.Public transport is abysmal.
I would go to Right Move and type in where you might like to go and have a browse and then narrow it down from there.

Im in Norfolk and suffolk (few days a week in each).
Shaneystar is correct in that a lot of places are too pricey in regards to house prices.
Major towns like Norwich, Kings lynn and yarmouth hav nice areas and not so nice areas. Yarmouth's employment is seasonal. Kings lynn is industry and foodstuffs. Norwich is a bit of everything.
heres the website of a norfolk / suffolk newspaper job section. http://www.edp24.co.uk/Content/Jobs/default.as p
theres this too http://www.justjobsnorfolk.co.uk/index.asp
You really need to get a good idea of what sort of things you want from a new location. Facilities are good in the large town but some small ones have little except for a supermarket and pubs.
If you get an idea of places you are considering then post them

I live in Suffolk. Perhaps the most important thing to say about jobs in East Anglia is that pay rates are often considerably lower than around London. (You'll need to remember that when working out what level of mortgage you can afford). For example, I know that some warehouses around Heathrow offer work at around 12 to 18 per hour whereas the same type of job will only pay around 6 to 8 per hour here. Many basic retail jobs (e.g. in supermarkets or DIY stores) only pay 5.35 to 6 per hour. As long as you can live on that sort of pay, it shouldn't be too difficult to get a job.
The principal newspaper for jobs in East Suffolk is the East Anglian Daily Times. They publish a weekly jobs supplement each Wednesday. (This also appears in Wednesday's Evening Star). They also list jobs online but I'm not sure whether this includes all of the jobs listed in print or just a selection:
http://www.eadt.co.uk/content/eadt/jobs/defaul t.aspx
Towards the west of the county (and into Cambridgeshire), the main newspaper for job seekers is the Cambridge Evening News:
http://jobs.cambridge-news.co.uk/
Some jobs around Bury St Edmunds, however, might only appear in the weekly Bury Free Press:
http://www.buryfreepress.co.uk/
Toward the north of Suffolk (and into Norfolk), you need to consult the Eastern Daily Press. (See the link provided by Redcrx).
Housing prices vary greatly throughout East Anglia. In Southwold, for example, a beach hut will cost well over 50,000! Other areas can be much cheaper, although you'd be well advised to avoid some parts of Thetford (and all of Haverhill!).

Buenchico do you mean the transport in East Anglia is abysmal? Not sure on that one as it depends where you live.
Any rural place is short on buses and trains but generally people live there if they have a car.
Post dog I am assuming you are north of London as you are heading north? There appear to be plenty of jobs in my local paper , The Hunts Post. We are up past Cambridge so the prices tend to drop the further you go. If you go out towards the fens and Peterborough (eg Chatteris, March, Ramsey) they are quite reasonable although you have to love the remoteness of the flat fens ( I don't ) and there are not the larger stores for work that you may be looking for.
Huntingdon, Bedford, Peterborough all have good towns (Pboro is a city) and you will see a price difference compared to London, house-wise. Lots of lovely( but pricey) villages, and schools too. Good luck anyway. x
