Chavs - Do they know wyhat they are?
Do chavs know they are Chavs. I think a big part of being a chav is trying to look like you have more money that you have, and that having the opposite effect, is this ironyy lost on the avarage chav, or do they know what they are? Maybe not news, but topical.

They can't all be that thick surely? The other thing is peer pressure I suppose. The need to belong to a particular group, so even if they did know how it made them look, they may bow down to the peer pressure just to 'be a part'.
I dunno, it's all part of a "lifestyle" fashion. It's suddenly fashionable ( thanks to a lot of hip hop artists etc) to have been spawned in "the ghetto". Therefore if you are born in the archeatypal poor area and you are smothered with bling ( albeit elizabeth duke) and have a gang then that denotes some sort of superiority and power within that scenario by virtue of money and manpower. Of course it doesn't in reality, as the people who really run those areas wouldn't be deen dead in Elizabeth Duke gold and if you pay peanuts , you get monkeys so their infrastructure only includes chavs at the lowest level, however that all seems totally lost on the poor muppets who dress that way to exude power they don't have and money they will only ever dream about, so no I don't think they know by and large.
Whilst agreeing with noxlumos - I think it should also be remembered that before 'chavs' came 'poor white trash' - sorry to say it but - just the same but under a different banner!!!!! They used to wear Puma, Reebok et al and now have transfered there affections to Burberry (who are hating it - because it has affected image and profits) and Ralph Lauren - but it doesn't mean they have money - most of the goods they buy can we bought at 'outlet' stores very cheaply - there is Burberry that costs 10 and Burberry that costs 600+. Incidently, JJB Sports have REALLY suffered because of the transferring of affection!!!!!
Ah yes, if only they realised the power they actualy do have.
But that's the thing you see. How many thinking, reasoning,
intelligent -( to any appreciable degree) chavs do you know? You can't be any of those AND a chav, it would automaticaly preclude you! (Unles you were on your way to some kind of strange fancy-dress party)
Telyawot ! go on ! just ask any of 'em about oppinions, matters of taste, preferences - or, if you realy want to overload 'em just watch their pallid foreheads scrunch and their eyes begin to glaze over because you've thrown in a two silable word without adequate warning !
They'd make smashin' crash test dummies 'though.
No ..... chavs don't know they are chavs. They don't know anything. And.......... yes, the irony is lost , as is anything, on a chav, average or otherwise.

Personnally, i think the word "chav" should not be used. Maybe we shouold stop labelling people althogether, and see people for who they really are.
Yes, "chavs" may look as if they want to knock some dude to the ground with their baseball caps, but who cares? "Emos/Goths/Moshers" apparently look like they have been dipped in a pool of tar, but again, who cares? "Indies" (which can i add is a type of music, not a type of person) seem to look like they permanently live in a moshpit, but who cares? If they're not your friends, then you don't care about them, they don't care about you. Let people be, so maybe all this chavs, emos etc will stop.
I myself consider to be neither of the above, according to some people, i am "norm." (normal). Well, i suppose i am, but then again, thats saying that people with different styles are abnormal...wierd,crazy,strange.
Then again, my ex-friend, calls me a chav, as i have an Emporio Armani jacket. Stupid, i know.
Sorry to leer away from the question, by the way. X

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chavin_culture apparantly they have been around for a long time, but recently 'resurfaced'
I always got the impression they thought they were being stylish and sophisticated - but, crucially, without having the money to afford it. I think if they could afford genuine labelled clothes and gold jewellery, they would - but instead go for knock-off copies and god-awful gold-plated stuff, thinking people won't notice the difference.
What I can never understand is if manufacturers can make something that looks like the expensive equivalent, why should people pay for the expensive equivalent? I am not a chav in any way, shape or form, but would buy the cheap version if I wanted the particular article and am certainly not into 'designer' labels. My friend even has Giorgio Armani glasses - does she really think he sits in a workshop imprinting his name on every pair? She also has a load of Louis Vuitton stuff (some real, some fake) and I bet no-one could tell the difference from more than two yards away. (They were probably made in the same third world sweat shop anyway).
greenrook- the common chav is a creature who lives on a council estate and wears burbary hats and clothes from jjb. they spend there time 'going out on the rob' and mating. they wear lots of bling and blast tinny rnb from their phones on the bus.
