Led Or Halogen

I'm looking at floor lamps and would prefer to buy LED with changeable bulbs (but the dimmable ones only seem to have halogen lamps.

Am I right to avoid halogen now? Is it possible to dim LED or should I settle for non-dimmable.

Maydup, just make sure it says the LEDs are dimmable.

You say "floor lamps". Won't they just plug into a wall socket?

I have an LED floor lamp which is variable (rather dim to very bright) and a choice of light colour (white - but warmish, neutral or coldish)

It says "only for halogens" I guess because of the dimmers used in it.
Some dimmers are not compatible with LEDs.

Definitely look for an LED version of the floor lamp.

Annoyingly, the bulbs are non-replaceable, which is pretty irresponsible these days.
Anyway, they say 20,000 hours. Amounts to over 2 years if you leave them on constantly (which you obviously won't.)

In normal use, I reckon that's not bad.
Don't forget, if they admit to 20,000, then they'll probably last even more.
Unless you can find one with replaceable ones, it's most likely the best you can do.

Expensive. They do seem to offer replacement bulbs, and also a five year bulb guarantee. Also a free trial.

Thanks again. I don’t normally agree with disposable, but I think on this occasion I’ll opt for the integrated LED for under £100 and take my chances.
