Last I heard Scotland sent 59 MPs to Westminster so hardly under anyone's thumb, as is identical to all nations in the Union. On fact it's only England that hasn't any devolved powers, so the English clearly have the best argument for being under the thumb; certainly not any of the privileged countries.

But the representatives of "the masses" (i.e. the people of the United Kingdom) have decided that the idea should not be sanctioned. Leaving aside the merits of the plan, Scotland is not an autonomous nation and when its devolved government takes decisions that affect people in the rest of the UK, the Westminster government is entitled to step in. If you are going to prattle on about the masses being ridden over roughshod, it is the 92% of people not living in Scotland who are being ridden over by an administration over which they have no control.

the scottish government have said (their) legislation makes no change to the reserved Equality Act 2010 and that principle is enshrined in the Bill, which is at odds with the above link.

If the Scottish government opt for a Judicial Review (which I think is the only realistic option open to them) it will be heard in the High Court.

Personally, I believe this should not be a judicial decision. The UK government still has authority over Scotland and actually can revoke the Scotland Act in its entirety if it had the mind to. It is a political decision taken with that in mind.

T.C.L. posted last night that all parties except the Cons. voted heavily in favour of the SNP 's law. I thought that was odd, but I heard today that the Cons. were the only party to allow a free vote on the issue.
I repeat that I consider using vulnerable youngsters as political pawns is despicable.
