I had the same problem last year - by the time you do get home from uni for the summer, all the temp jobs will be taken from other students!!!

If you do leave it that late, you could always work in a bar somewhere? They are always recruiting!

I'm in a similar situation to you and was last year.  Ideally I would love a fulltime job for 4 months over the summer, but haven't been able to find anywhere this year or last year.  I take on extra shifts at my part time job where I can (I only normally work saturdays so it wouldn't interfere with a M-F 9-5 job), and pester the temp agency - it can work!

Good luck!

Hi biddyk don't know where you are, but if there are any food factories in your area you may want to try them, pretty monotonous work I know, but the pay is usually better than bar / waitressing work and the hours a little more sociable! Our factory employs quite a lot of students in the summer months to cover our employees' holidays!
you could try Mand S my local two stores used to hire extra staff for the summer around now...the pay aint bad.

Don't forget the Jobcentre online - you can check daily for the new jobs that have become available, both permanent and temporary, full and part time. If you put in the postcode of the area where you want to work, you can look up jobs in any part of the country.

If you have a particular type of job in mind, old fashioned door knocking (Do you need any help over the summer? Here's my CV) can have excellent results.

Good luck.

If you register with a recruitment agency for catering, they can have you out at work within hours.  You have to be prepared to go all over the place (using whatever transport you have available - they are usually very reasonable and will not send you to the middle of the countryside if you don't have a car!).  You also have to remember that it's not guaranteed hours, but the more hard work you put in, the more hours you'll be given.  If you're worried about getting back home and not having a job to go to, why don't you ring the catering agencies in your home town now and find otu what details you'll need.  You'll be earning in no time!
