do I get a email asking me for a meter reading online?
I duly do this, then get my bill in PDF form, this was two weeks ago....
this morning I get a meter reader banging on the frond door? I explained I have done the above so why is he wanting to read my meter?
"Oh, they do this all the time, we are employed by a few of them"
Glad this chap has a job but what a utter waste of money these utilities companies must be wasting.

I ignore requests for online readings because I think I am taking a job away from the meter-reader. And as there aren't many jobs around, why should I do that? My conscience wouldn't let me.

This isn't a one off, this happens very 6 months now but it used to be quarterly, like you Star, I would rather we have a meter reader to keep someone in a job,

I didn't Trig:-)
didn't even know who the removed post was from, I've just came in
probably a typo in it, trigs; it is mid-month and the typo mods are putting in an extra effort as it's today their bonuses are calculated.

neh...Metro Centre, I asked the oh if he had bought me an Anniversary card for tomorrow, he had and I felt guilty so had to go for one :-(
I don't really believe in Valentines for each other, this was stopped a long, long time ago and I thought, why the Anniversary card? I know what date we got married..LOL
Same happened to me - 4 days after I sent the reading back online. I asked the meter reading why he'd come when I'd already sent it in and he said they have to do "spot-checks" to make sure people are not fiddling the figures. I can agree with reason but he came round again this quarter - is he trying to tell me something!! I agree that its a total waste of resources, someone is in the office taking all the readings off the web - they are employing two people to do the same job .............. no wonder the prices are high!!
"someone is in the office taking all the readings off the web"

It's likely you're putting information straight into their database. Why would they take it "off the web"?

"they are employing two people to do the same job .............. no wonder the prices are high!!"

That's not why the prices are high. It's greed, generally speaking.
Question Author
it's a very 'hidden' greed imo :-(
I might have to contact Anne Robinson about this on WD ..lol
