Anyone here experienced with cooking with tofu? Any hints and tips??

I used to enjoy a Thai restaurant who did a curry with Tofu. The tofu was thinly sliced and fried to give it a bit of texture, and it absorbed the curry flavours. I can't make tofu delicious on its own, but I do use it occasionally to add protein to a stir-fry (instead of chicken, pork or beef lumps). I think that tofu is best pressed a bit to remove excess moisture, then sliced and fried, and then added to whatever. It's worth giving it a try, as long as you don't expect something meaty and strong flavoured.

I used it in a stir fry last night as I feel now we’re eating less and less meat, and have never been huge fish eaters, that our diet probably lacks sufficient protein. We both get a bit over pulsed if you see what I mean.
I looked online and did as you said..pressed it to squeeze some water out, then cubed it and roasted it before adding to the stir fry.
I was never expecting it to be anything like a pretend meat product in texture or taste, am just after the protein. It was very innocuous, neither horrible nor wonderful, and I would use it again in a stir fry, probably not for anything else though.

I thought I might try it after watching the Hairy Bikers cooking with it in a pub just down the road from us! It does seem to need strong flavours. It was interesting to see it being made.

2. Cook something else that actually tastes of something
It's a filler IMHO, and the overall meal relies on other ingredients for flavour.
We're trying to eat less meat too. But we do eat a lot of fish. Can't resist a good steak though. I only like beef. When I'm up to cooking again I might try Tofu. But I don't think MrT will approve!!

I used a black bean sauce for the stir fry so the tofu did take up some of the flavour. And I added some peanuts for extra texture. Although that sticky sweet and spicy recipe does look good, I couldn’t be bothered with the faff to be honest. I don’t do faff cooking these days, my back just can’t take all the standing at the worktops.
Ha ha Dave, you’re possibly right. I’d never use the silky stuff instead of scrambled eggs, or anything else for that matter. The vegan in our family uses it a fair bit in various ways but given we’re neither vegetarian nor vegan I just want to find a few ways of adding protein into our diet.
Like you Vagus, even when well, my back won't let me stand at worktops which is why MrT does all the cooking. I can walk about but not stand!

We had a lovely ribeye steak last Sunday as requested by OH for his birthday, and will be having pork belly slices tomorrow which are an infrequent treat. Not had meat all week.
We tend to eat more chicken than any other meat these days. Or quorn mince for one pot mince type meals.
I don't mind chicken as long as its disguised. A bit like Tofu I suppose. A chicken in various guises can do three or four meals for us. The days of meat veg and gravy are over. Occasionally he has a Pukka pie!
I tried tofu many years ago and was not impressed.
Tonight I was going to have fish, but since I feel pretty rubbish, the fish is in the freezer and some sausages will go on the slow cooker.
So far this week I've had harissa eggs on toast, quiche, baked cauli risotto with camembert, spinach and cheese stuffed mushrooms, and deconstructed fish pie. So not much meat at dinner...the last red meat was last Friday.
I'm not a beef fan, and prefer pork, chicken and fish...with eggs in between. Don't like beans...nor do they like me. So protein comes from animals.

Drippy runny nose, achey and cold. Just hoping it doesn't get worse.
