Who is going to hold prices down when people have that much money. Within weeks that million wouldn't even buy you a coal shed in Blackburn. If you want to give money away better to drip feed it over a long term period or spend it on funding free university education for those roles the country needs, doctors, paramedics professions, nurses, teachers, e tc.
I think a lot of companies would collapse. Lots of people would believe that £1m will last forever and go crazy spending money, ordering new, top of the range cars and luxury items which of course would quickly and steeply rise in price. Many folk would resign from their despised jobs hoping to 'live the dream', leaving companies short staffed. Demand would outstrip supply and before the goods could be delivered and the balances collected, the orders would be cancelled.
When the dust settles down we would be much worse than we are now, as a nation. The previously wealthy would still be wealthy and the poor would again be poor with many companies bust. I suspect bookmakers would be amongst the 'winners' of such an experiment.
