saying that I needed a new meter as my present one is 15 years old and on the contact email the last word was 'smart'. I feel this is just another ploy to get me to have a smart meter installed, which I don't want. Can I ignore it?
yes, I am turning them down, not least they can turn you off 'just like that', a click of their finger or push of a button and not because you owe them - for example a complaint or public negative comment.
'Behave Mr Robot and we shall oil you - otherwise you are Rust'
I had a couple of letters to the same effect which I ignored. They eventually phoned me and when I told them I would be happy to have my meter replaced but not with a smart meter they ended the call. They will no doubt try again in a few months’ time.
They can't turn you off for making a public comment whether you have a Smart Meter or not! Equally you can be disconnected with or withput a Smart Meter if that is your fate.
Its a rediculous fear and simply about resistance to change. Long gone are our estimated bills and now we can see exactly what we're using and when using our Smart display.
When we were with E.on, they were forever trying new tactics to get us on a smart meter. This spurred me on to change to Octopus...best move ever and got a 2-year fixed deal just before prices started to skyrocket.
No estimated bills, no nagging and no smart meter.
We've had a smart meter ever since we changed to Ovo years ago and had no problems at all. Also no problems of any sort with Ovo who have a great customer service team. Glad we switched over to them.
