Intimate Medical Examinations

Given the choice of two people, would you rather the examination be carried out by a gay person of the same sex, or somebody of the opposite sex?
If it doesn't bother you, would you feel the same if you had to choose for your teenage child?

I really find it hard to believe that anyone could get a thrill from carrying out a medical examination so it's never bothered me.

As long as they were medically competent, and not the window cleaner, I couldn’t give a fig.

For myself I’m not bothered although our surgery has a women’s clinic for smear tests, etc, run by female nurses, they used to be done by male or female GPs.
If a teenage child was competent enough then I’d be guided by what they felt comfortable with.

I don't mind. If they are qualified, I don't mind what their gender or orientation is.

I don't have a teenage child, however my OH is autistic and sometimes has the mind of a child. She doesn't feel comfortable doing personal care with men, however our GP is a man and she's ok with him seeing her naked and doing examinations - it took a while for her to get comfortable with him. I'm always there during doctor's appointment, just in case she becomes overwhelmed/unable to communicate.

I'd prefer the same sex, if possible- I don't give a monkeys about their orientation- just that they understand better.
The only time though, I have actually requested a female GP, is for Mental Health issues... where without fail, male doctors have always missed the point.

I have probably posted this before - but in case not -

A couple of years ago I had to have a prostate exam, and the lady who carried it out was really attractive.

And let's face it, if she can look really attractive in hospital scrubs and cap, I did wonder how good she'd look dressed up for the evening!

I said, as I always say on these occasions - "I don't usually do this without dinner and flowers ..." and she was charming enough to pretend she hadn't heard it before.

In answer to the question, I have no problem with being examined by a professional of any gender or orientation, it's not like it's going to be a prelude to a relationship!

But I do recall a lesbian friend telling me that she once had an intimate examination by a very attractive female nurse, and found herself involuntarily excited by the occasion, and ensuring she didn't catch the nurse's eye - just in case ... !

I much prefer a male doctor. My doctor of choice is a sarcastic Irish guy. He is a people person and very straight to the point.

Recent changes in our practice have meant that a lady doctor is overseeing the care of diabetics and manic depression medications.

She is lovely but I find her nauseatingly nice and kind and overly sympathetic.

I like my doctor too. Straightforward, competant and you can have a laugh with him. And saved my life in November.

either - any - so long as he knew what he was doing ( what a polyp should feel like, what a prostate should feel like).

doctors who get off on it get dimissed and GMC'd ( quicko)
Neighbours GP was out in 5 d ( after the complaint) (*)

America - taken to a difft level - donning white coats and going onto wards, running up to women grunting and squeezing breasts like sponges
( kinda scene from ER but real life)

(*) not known how long he had been doing it. pts reluctant to complain and he clearly wdnt co operate
