Eton Mess is always a saver for a dodgy pavlova. I am meant to be giving a "Pavlova Masterclass" to 3 local ladies soon. I think that could end in failure since I imagine much fizz will be consumed.
I had a Christmas cake fail a few years ago. I ordered Midnight Blue icing (was going to be midnight blue with silver stars). It turned up on Christmas Eve and it was BRIGHT NEON BLUE. I didn't have enough sugar to make some and I couldn't get out to the shops. So bright neon blue it was.

my dad once made a chicken pie..when mum was ill in bed.. well impressed mum asked how he managed it..well..he said..puff pastry was in the freezer and there was a tin of chicken chunks so just added a bit of gravy and a wee bit veg it was easy ! "chicken chunks ?" asked my mum..show me the tin... apparently whiskas chicken makes exceedingly good pies !! ABSOLUTELY TRUE !!
