Travelled quite a bit when going to nearly all Burnley's away games a few years back. Though it wasn't the longest trip i made, an evening away match at Ipswich was the toughest, having to travel the breadth of the country. Needless to say, i only made that trip once and i raised an imaginary glass to those Burnley fans who made the exact same trip last Saturday.
Also, after quaffing quite a few pints one Friday evening in November in the late 80s, a group of us drunkenly decided we would hitch it down to London to watch the next day's Leyton Orient v Burnley match.
We took a taxi to Preston to get on the motorway and i knocked on the door of a large house to ask if they had any cardboard we could use to make a couple of signs. The householder was a policeman who very kindly took me into his garage, and with paint and cardboard, made two signs saying "The South". Then he wished us luck.
We split into two teams of two and stood about 50 yards apart with our signs but after about an hour - remember it was November - we decided to walk on the motorway, hopefully to the nearest service station - remember we were drunk..
Of course it wasn't long before plod picked us up, took our names and addresses but very kindly deposited us at Charnock Richard service station.
We immediately got a lift into Romford, arriving there around 8 a.m. One of our group took his Burnley scarf from around his neck and hid it round his waist, under his coat. Then, while we breakfasted in a cafe, we discovered it was West Ham territory. Said member popped to the loo and when he came back, he was wearing the scarf around his neck. Spent about an hour walking around Romford market, before having a few pints in a pub where the above member tried to affect a cockney accent and pass himself off as a West Ham fan- i kid you not.
Burnley drew 1-1, we got a lift home on a coach driven by a friend of ours and about a fortnight later, were all issued with £10 fines for walking on the motorway.
Ah, those were the days:-)

Now my story: On a February night,
a load of us piled into a transit van, i think about 10 of us, and drove up to Bury to watch us (wba) play a fa cup game, it had been snowing, so of course the terraces were freezing, so we had to endure not only the cold weather but not the best of games, and we lost 1.0
I almost sure Cyril Regis came on as a sub.
I cant remember anything else.

Forgot to post this t'other day, Piggy. Did any of these trains operate in your area. An attempt to bring 'civilization' to football :-)))
