The point is, if Ukraine is good for the EU, then the UK would have been a better supporter for Ukraine if the UK was in the EU. Never mind though ...

Haven't read the other answers. Re.OP I would suggest that his view was the same as Churchill's; the idea of an EU was good for Europe (no more countries trying to become king-pin), but that it would never do for us. He and de Gaulle were correct. We are only european geographically.
