I was given some of these and not impressed, my flowers died sooner and I am left with a huge bowl of balls!
What do I do with the balls and what did I do wrong with my flowers dying.

Any daffodils amongst the bunch? They will kill other flowers as they secrete a sap that stops them drawing water.
