I've completed this puzzle. I've highlighted the 36 formed from the 7 extra letters, but I have 2 unchecked squares still empty beneath that word. The 1 to the right of 34 and the 1 to the left of 40. Am I missing something about the instruction?
Never mind. Doh!
It's even more likely that 'handsaw' in Shakespeare is in error for 'harnser', which to this day is Norfolk dialect for a heron.
The consensus among Shakespearean scholars is that handsaw is a corruption of hernshaw.
I actually saw both hawk (well buzzard) and 'handsaw' when I had my usual morning meander.
