Just how the hospitals in Turkey are getting on with the job of looking after thousands of injured people, under great pressure. Not moaning, just getting on with it. Puts us to shame I think.

This is pretty standard in many countries and seen as part of a family responsibility. It means the staff are free to do things untrained people couldn't do. When relatives expect a nurse to pick up a tissue dropped by a patient when they have access to gloves and a bin and it's in the middle of a ward round, and staff are giving out medication. ( happened to me) it shows the cultural difference. I am quite sure the staff in Turkey and Syria haven't a hope in hell of covering everything that is needed and a great deal of triage is happening even on wards.
Politicising this disaster to suit your own agenda is poor form.
is a constant activity
and NOT doing it is probably impossible
but hey this is AB on a sunday - so the usual rules apply ! ter daaah !
There is a cross border town Turkey Syria and even the Beeb marxist journo was forced to say that a mile a way the Turks are getting on with it and the Syrians are wandering around with their heads still in their hands
( so by implication Turks good, and even better when they hinder Ukraine joining Nato and EU - and Syria Bad, even tho the president is a doctor)

The principles are pretty standard
triage ( done by the most experienced doctor NOT one oudda medical skool)
basically dead, immediate care, walking wounded, and sort of uninjured.
Divide your services into those who will do best
Put the first five in ITU beds and extemporise for the rest
and you know after a few times, you get quite good at this

With the tube disaster ( the driver went at full speed into a blind tunnel) the injured went to barts where Mr Martin Birnstingl went to the front arch and performed triage
He had previously gone to North Vietnam and served as a srugeon in Hanoi 1970-3.
2005 Bombings - Dr Dearden did triage at BMA house and no one who got in alive - - died. Unfortunately one of the secretaries pretended to be a doctor and so the question arose, did anyone she 'treated' die who shouldna
2019 - Arena Triage was performed by Dr Michael Daly of whom Lord Snooty ( Kerslake actually) said "when I first heard what he did, I thought it as obviously the wrong thing but now I can see that it was obviously the right thing". (Thurlow about a young Eldon 1795). A vagabond helped the injured and also himself to their wallets ( oops) and one of the helpers got a medal and then they found she had consiged herself a hours dindins break - - oh dear
so readers and boys and girls - we can always do better
These post have been about triage in disasters.
ABers will still q up to say " yeah but what about da foo when......"
