Oven Tripping Rcd
10 Answers
I have a Russell hobbs oven 2yrs old. It has a few settings on it which can use the fan or can be used without it. When using the fan setting, it trips the rcd but works perfectly fine using co conventional setting. Any ideas if this is easily fixed. Thanks

Firstly, there could be a fault within the oven, such as a short on the fan circuit. However it might also be that the oven has been connected to an electrical supply which isn't up to the job.
So the first thing to do is to check that the RCD isn't simply tripping out because the oven is drawing too much current, even though it's working properly. (If it is, you need an electrician to sort out your wiring. If it isn't, you need a service engineer to repair your oven).
So what's the model number of your oven, please, and also what's the rating of the RCD?

The RCD will not trip due to over current. RCD's detect residual current (aka earth leakage)
It could be a build up of grease behind the switch. A feed to the fan may have melted thus making contact with the metal casing. Or the fan itself has become faulty. Again from the possibility of a build up of grease.
You either need a domestic appliance repair man. Or treat yourself to a new oven.

I agree that it should last more than 2 years. And I'm not implying that you don't clean the oven regularly. But it will be one of the problems I have mentioned.
I'm also a fully qualified electrician of 35 years.
It's sad to say. But things just aren't made the way they used to be.
Look up domestic appliance repairs in your neighbourhood.
