well, yeah, but "how did we manage?"

Most of us managed because one person stayed at home all day so they could return the bottles, walked to the shops every day instead of driving once a week, washed the nappies, yada yada yada. And the rest of the family lived on one person's salary.

Was that better? Does anyone want to go back to it?

Yes, bring back the old days of fossil fuel burning, women being household slaves and mass pollution.
Sell your electric car Hoppy.
I remember the stench from the gas holders, the dense thick fog during the winter caused by industrial and domestic chimneys, the fug in pubs and cinemas from the fags.
The dust that accumulated every day from the fire, the need to decorate every year or two because of the fires and the smoking.
We complain about industry waste and sewage emptying in to our seas and rivers now, I remember what it was like then and the canals were even worse.
I remember when it was acceptable for dogs to poo on pavements and car drivers to empty the ashtrays in to the gutters.
Things aren't perfect now but I gave my rose tinted glasses away to be recycled years ago
Some are things are coming back, shops where you can buy basics loose, like sugar, teabags, cereals, etc, farmers markets if you can afford to use them, but nice to talk to the person who cared for the animals you are taking home to eat. Some old methods of cleaning for example using vinegar, bicarb, and household soap, But I am glad I don't have to lay and light fires, do a couple of hours ironing a week, or carry home bags of shopping. Just keep the bits that work, incorporate anything that genuinely makes life easier...
