When I was a lad, hands in pockets was regarded as very bad manners and indeed at school it was a punishable offence.

Yet I've just watched news footage of HM King Charles II arriving in Colchester and walking around with one hand in his pocket even when shaking hands with the other one .

How standards have declined.

the other hand is probably reserved for when he meets Masons. Or Nell Gwyn, if you've got the regnal number right.
A classic response to having your hand in your pocket was, do you have a hole in that pocket?

I always thought it was hands in trouser pockets that was rude - jacket pocket is okay, which I think is what KC3 does.
