My father went in for a private operation which I paid for. He was due to come out after 4 days which the payment covered. However he has caught a chest infection in hospital and is being treated for that. How can I pay for the extra stay if I do not have the money

I would speak directly to the company and explain your problem. Perhaps this care can be done on the NHS, but unless you ask you won't know.
it will become an ongoing debt
Maybe try claiming against the hospitals public liability insurance.

It's not your dads fault that infection lurks in their hospital.
Have you read the terms and conditions of the healthcare group. Re-admissions due to the original treatment are usually included in the price, as the inection was caught while in there you might find there will not be any further charge. However giving them a ring and asking would be best.
I cannot anwer your question and this grieves me.
But I can offer sympathy.
I went in for a routine hip operation (privately paid) and contracted sepsis from the wound.
I paid for the hip replacement op.
The NHS paid for the sepsis treatment which followed.
I too had a hip replacement. The hospital also kindly gave me deep seated MRSA to boot. Very expensive intravenous antibiotics later I wobbled home. Hospitals…in this country are best avoided if at all possible.
