A favorite actor of mine, Michael Caine turned ninety today.

I've never been able to find Michael Caine 'believable' as an actor.

As analogy, I can watch Only Foools and Horses and David Jason 'becomes' Del Boy for me. I can watch A Touch of Frost straight afterward and then David Jason 'is' DI Frost. If the next programme is The Darling Buds of May, I will then see Pop Larkin on my screen, rather than David Jason.

However it doesn't matter whether I'm watching Zulu, The Italian Job, Alfie, Funeral in Berlin or any other Michael Caine movie, all I ever see is Michael Caine on the screen, rather than the character that he's meant to be playing.

erm, no it worked for me ( he was Bromfield innit).

Remember Zoolie wasnt history - I note Caine has been back-tracking on god-knows-what - whether it is history ( no) or colonial history ( no again) or drama ( yes).

In reality ( or History) Chelmsford who survived the massacre at isandlwana hared ( like a jet-powered bunny rabbit) back to London and Queen Vic. And he cleared His Story with the Queen - who er swallowed it whole.

Same for me with James Nesbitt.

I am always astounded by actors who appear in different guises and with different accents in different roles.
Not that I am decrying people like MC or JN, Far from it.

I actually watched Zulu for the nth time yesterday - the opening credits said "introducing Michael Caine". Considering that it was made in 1964, the lad hasn't had a bad career.
