Hi there, my four and a half year old Dobeman bitch has just been disgnosed as having Cervical Vertebral Instability or Wobblers Syndrome to you and me. I have done some digging about on the internet for information, and was expecting our vet to recommend invasive surgery to cure the situation or at best to relieve the pressure on the dogs spine. Instead he's put her on a course of anti-inflamatory tablets. His thinking is that the tablets will reduce the swelling around the vertebra in the dogs kneck so reducing the pressure on her spine. From what i've read, only invasive surgery or gold bead implants are the only opptions for a permenant solution to wobblers syndrome. Has anyone here had a Doberman diagnosed with wobblers syndrome, if so what treatment did your dog get for the condition ? Any information greatfully recieved. John.

Hi, i look after a Dobie at the creche where i work. He was 5last year when he started to go downhill, finding it hard to lie down and screaming in pain when he moved. He was diagnosed with wobblers syndrome and he had surgery to remove three discs in his neck. They went in through the front of his neck, as this is the easiest way to get access. He was in quite a bad way the first few months, he looked so ill, shaved patches and stitches everywhere, he also put on a lot of weight as he could only have gentle lead excerise. He has made a full recovery and although he cant play his favourite game of tug anymore, he's happy! He's lost the weight and got his gorgeous Doberman stance back!

Hi John - I know its been some time but i've just found your post on wobblers, my 6 year old Doberman bitch was diagnosed with wobblers in August of this year and has just ubdergone the surgery of having 2 discs removed - sounds similar to the one mentioned previously here. Her surgery was on the 21/8, and she is still getting over it. If you need to ask any questions, feel free to email me on [email protected] i'll be happy to help.
Good luck
Kelley
