Why do they call this dross (and similar) "reality" TV? It's about as far detached from reality as many politicians are.

because there is no script it is the people and their real characters that is why it is reality tv

There is always a script of sorts and we rarely see the 'real character' - people are directed and prompted by the producers to behave in certain ways designed to get an audience reaction.
Even Gogglebox has several takes and the cast are prompted to get the reaction the producer wants.

Latest in a long line of shows for self obsessed morons. I watched the first ever big brother, it was new and quite fun. Little did I know where it would lead. Gawd I hate soaps but they are a paragon of quality TV compared to this sort of ***.
