A little bit complicated hoping that someone can help. My sister died recently and her granddaughter us soke beneficiary. In order fir the solicitor to proceed with the will he needs a copy of my sister's divorce papers. It has got to be 40 or so years ago and without the exact datewe aren't sure how to go about it. Any suggestions gratefully received
Your local registrar (or your sister's local registrar) ought to be able to help. You know your sister's dob and her ex-husband's name, so it shouldn't be too hard, i would think.
This sounds like a strange request though. Unless the ex husband is mentioned in the Will and the solicitor needs it to ensure that his gift has failed. But if the Will post dates the divorce, I have no idea why he might need these documents. And why can't the solicitor obtain them, if you give him the information!
