I presume this is a translation, and if so I don't think it's a very good one.
"The pigeon-house of letters
begin its impossible flight..."
'Begin should be 'begins'
Or should it?
Perhaps in the original it is excellent, but in the English it jars because of the singular noun being follwed by a plural verb.
