For Toby...he sheds for England and has fur that gets matted easily. He had some matts due to not grooming himself...but over the past 6 months he's been more like a normal cat...bathing after meals. ;)
But...he doesn't like unusual touching, so introducing brushing needs to be very slow and gentle.

I've got a mit like that...I think I tried it on him last year. He jumped out of his skin.
I should mention...so no one thinks I'm a horrid cat mum, that he's naturally lost the mats...amazing what some self care does! But stroking him results in fluff everywhere.
Is there a Pets R Us, sorry - Pets at Home near you? Ask the very helpful staff there.

Should have said...I can try Pet Express. I could have gone in there today.
Or cat used to enjoy being brushed with one with metal bristles that each ended in a plastic sphere. I think it gave a pleasant massage feeling.
Eventually the plastic tips started to fall off and he winced as the bristles must have felt like stabs.
Look ar the site for "Groomi" I got one of these for my cat
I have the brush that Hopkirk recommends. Puss Puss thinks it is the bees knees and will roll over to have his tummy brushed whilst purring very loudly. Bailey thinks it is the source of evil whichever side you use and pulls the most fantastic faces.
