Just curious as to how much bread you eat. These days i eat very little but even as a child I'd have at least two slices of toast for breakfast, usually with dripping in the winter, take sandwiches to school, have a jammy piece when I got home while waiting for tea.
The whole family ate much the same and so did my friends.
We ate a lot of bread. A healthy lunch for a child was typically a glass of milk, a cheese sandwich and an apple. How times have changed.
Oh bhg, the thought of bread and milk makes me feel sick. I have never liked milk and the smell of hot milk makes me heave. My mum used to make egg custard and my grandmother would whip up egg and milk to drink. Yuk.
Barry - which part of the country are you from. I was brought up in Lancashire and when I went to Wiltshire they'd never heard of pobs. One of the girls was so taken by the name she named her new pony Pobs.
bhg; Pobs were a staple. Usually had at supper time (that means just before you undressed behind the sofa and went up to bed with a hot brick wrapped up in an old jumper.)
Atheist - Yes, I remember them as a supper-time dish. I used to get ready for bed by the fire and my grandma, who lived with us, was most upset because she thought the people on TV could see me with no clothes on (not many TVs about in those days. Mind you, I sometimes think she might have been right; our local newspeople always sign off with "I'll SEE you tomorrow".
