crossing the border of canada

hi, i'm coming from nyc and i will be visiting canada for 2 days.Since it wil be my first time, i would like to know do you do background checks and is any picture id good as long as i have a ss card and birth certificate?

So are you coming to england via Canada then?? I don't understand... If you're an American citizen, coming to the UK you'll need a visa thing and a passport. Don't know about birth certificates and ss cards... Have fun though!
