WiFi on board ship will be too expensive, I don’t need it urgently, so was wondering if, when ashore, I can switch on my mobile data, not to use the phone, but to see if I have any emails or WhatsApp messages. Would there be a charge, to me, for this?? I am with Tesco Mobile. I will see if I can find WiFi ashore if possible, but just wondering.

Tesco Mobile has different plans and contracts so you need to read the contract you agreed to see if they charge for using data abroad. Accessing email without WiFi uses data
Spooky. I just had my O2 bill and am off to Tesco today to change providers.
Tesco's site lists European roaming included for the rest of 2023.

I did this in Egypt and wondered how much it wd all cost me - - - - £3
but I cdnt be sure
read the contract and try to make sense of it
It all depends on where you'll be using it.
Try this form and input the country you'll be in and input UK as the country you'll be calling:
https://www.tescomobile.com/roaming

I just used it and used Spain as an example. It tells you how much it will cost if you go over your allowance, plus it also states (for Spain):
//// For all of 2023, with Home From Home you can use your phone in our 48 European Home From Home destinations just like you do at home. You can use your minutes, texts and data as normal, and if you run out, you just pay our standard rates below, as you would at home. For pay as you go rates. ////
My advice would be to switch of roaming and find a cafe / bar with WiFi to catch up with WhatsApp etc.

I phoned them, seems like using mobile data ashore is the same as using my phone at home. That seems too good to be true …
