can you tile straight onto plaster board?

Yes you can tile from plaster board have done it myself over 2 years ago in shower cubicle and have had no problems
Yes you can tile on plaster board it last up to 3 years no longer.
use a waterproof grout and seal all edges (ie tile to bath) with mastic
