Ok, I have an online friend( like you lot!) who I’ve never met but we met in mutual FB group and have kept in contact daily since, which is about a year. He was made redundant and is currently seeking work, but is very low, and I know struggling.
Yesterday me he’s aged me to say that PayPal have taken £150 from his bank and that his bank(Barclays) aren’t helping. He says they just keep saying he either must have bought something and forgotten and to take it up with PayPal. He hasn’t bought anything, and had tried to spk to PayPal but it’s all automated. He’s tried Barclays several times but can’t get anyone to take him seriously and is getting in a right state. I can’t speak to them as I’m not the account holder, but is there a number, anything that maybe I could speak to someone to at least explain the issue and get them to maybe call him?? Or a number I can give him that will actually listen to him??

Is it possible he wants your attention and is sort of grooming you for future scams?
"It was some sort of auto renew I was unaware of. Never used PayPal again"

Hmm... Surely PP was just conforming to what seemed a legitimate request. Had you not used them, your bank or credit card supplier would have done much the same anyway. Your gripe should therefore have been with the company who claimed there was an agreed auto renew ?
You are right OG and I was annoyed with said companies never using them again either. I just did also find it a struggle to find the information I needed via PayPal account etc and have never found them easy to contact. Never found it an easy site - probably just me. I sometimes almost get caught out with subscribing on Amazon as well if buy on phone instead of computer as I don't spot the options as easily.
Sorry Smow but i think it was a scam but he got cold feet when you tried to help him in a practical way ( he didnt want you to meddle)

He was seeing if you offered cash to help him out.
> PayPal have taken £150 from his bank and that his bank(Barclays) aren’t helping

Note that he does not say that it's his Paypal account. It says that it's Barclays account. The scam may be that his money has been taken from his Barclays account to the scammer's Paypal account.
This is a scam, don't fall for it. If you're in contact for a year they're playing the 'long game' He also busy with other victims he's also hustling... Is he by any chance working on an oil rig or in the middle East?
