So my husband really wants a dog, it’s been a lifelong dream of his and we’re finally in a position where we have a home and big enough backyard. I work from home and he works 8-12 hours 6 days a week.

I have autism (sensory issues licking, barking, smells and saliva) OCD with regards to contamination fears and clean house (it’s perfect, I clean all devices after each use, the baseboards are dusted daily etc) I am also allergic to cats and dogs because of pet dander.

Husband has found a hypoallergenic poodle puppy that doesn’t shed and is convinced if I just get a dog I’ll get over myself and grow as a person. But I will have to do 90% of the care as he works out of home and I’ll be here all day with it. I already do all of the housework, car work, cooking, yard maintenance and the paperwork for both of our businesses.

I don’t want a dog, the extra work and hell of cleaning after it and sneezing constantly makes me so anxious I’ve vomited every morning since he brought it up. But I also don’t want to disappoint him or make him think I’m pathetic and cold because I can’t even handle a puppy.

What should I do? Do I give in and get the dog and just hope I can grow to like it because maybe he’s right? Or say no and disappoint my husband and have him lose faith in me.

Please don’t suggest divorce, a puppy is a ridiculous thing to end a marriage over.

I've been told puppies are lovely and adorable so ....yes .. give the puppy a home ... make your husband happy.x
Absolutely not, you will resent the dog and your husband if you have to look after a dog you don't want.
Just say no.
Dogs are soooo yesterday, get a horse if you're only along for the ride.
Do not get a dog, from what you have said here, the dog will not be accepted and loved like a family member, so do the dog a favour and dont get one.

The answer is in what you wrote. Don't get the puppy, they need a lot of care, love and attention.
Rather you need to sort out and share life's duties with your other half.
You have posted about this two weeks ago and got a lot of of answers

My answer is the same as Ratter's. Don't get a dog.

And I agree with Samuraisan.

Do not get a dog, the poor thing will NOT be welcome in your home.
Agree with fd. The dog will know it is not loved by you and will be so unhappy. He's thinking all about himself, not you or the dog!!

Tell your husband to offer his walking services to a neighbour who needs a dog walker. That might keep him quiet. Good luck.
