I would bet my third t******e that neither of them are telling the WHOLE truth but, loathe as I am to side with the red, white & black bogroll, I rather think the editor of the News of the Screws wouldn't be so stupid as to run with the story without thoroughly checking its veracity, bearing in mind that Sheridan has already won one court case on the matter.
this is a strange one.how the hell could anyone lie so blatantly and get away with it? and how could the news of the world keep going with this if it wasnt true? i dont think anyone will ever know the truth(unless this tape is real and the experts prove it to be so) .but tommy sheridan is a politician and we all know they can spout ******** to the death.
I think Sheridan is telling the truth. Or at least, his own truth. He may have misunederrememberated what was said at various times. Ultimately, regardless of who is telling the truth or lying, I think there is no reasonable prospect of 15 jurors being persuaded beyond reasonable doubt that the videotape is definitely genuine, and therefore there is no realistic prospect of Sheridan being prosecuted for perjury, even if he lied, which I think he didn't anyway.
quite a lot of people testified as to what he said. The jury didn't believe them. The result rather surprised the paper, which thought it had him bang to rights. But juries mostly seem to like newspapers even less than they like politicians.
Still, you might want to be careful before you accuse him of perjury; he seems a litigious chap.
It is difficult to believe the News of the world has EVER told the truth about anything, unless of course you are a daily mail or daily express reader, in which case you will believe anything that you are fed.
