Family tree (again)

Thanks to the answers to my previous question about where to start with my family tree, I have made some progress. However, I'm a bit stuck trying to find out more about my grandfather's parents. He was born in 1910 so the 1901 census is no use. Can anyone give me any direction? I want to find a bit more before i start spending money! Thanks

Well if you don't know their names (and none of your family do) then it looks like the best way to proceed would be to buy your Grandfathers birth certificate. It should cost about �7.50. I have found that the quickest way is to order it from the registry office where the birth was registered (if you know it), if not you'll have to order it from the central place.

Sorry - forgot to say that the information on his birth certificate will include his parents names, his mothers maiden name, the address where he was born, and his fathers occupation. All of the above can be useful in tracing your Great Grandparents on the 1901 census. (as will the information on their marriage certificate which will give their ages and their fathers names).

Just realised that I posted an answer to your question on researching your family tree yesterday. Are you sure that you've explored all the possibilites? Contacting relatives can take some time, have you checked with all aunt/uncles all your parents cousins etc to see what they know? The best way is to meet them face to face and write down ALL that they tell you. One of them could have the information you're looking for!

Thanks, Spudqueen. He was an only child and had two daughters, my cousin and i have been researching it together. We know his parents names, but not where or when they were born and there seem to be an awful lot of people with the same name who could fit the bill. Its hard to know how to proceed for me, but I think his birth cert. seems a good try. Thanks.
