Different reg number on MOT
Hi all.
At the weekend I bought a used car (from a reputable main dealer) the MOT cert has a different registration number listed to the actual one on the car. Thinking I'd been given the wrong MOT cert I went in and asked them for the correct one. They told me that the number on the MOT was a 'cherished number' and the vehicle was now back with it's original reg number. Now I checked the engine number on the MOT and it matches the vehicle, but the problem is the tax disc runs out at the end of this month, although the MOT still has 11 months to go. If I try and tax the vehicle with the current MOT cert will I be able to or will the post office send me away because the reg numbers don't match? I'm not going to want to pay out for a new MOT straight after handing over several thousand pounds for a vehicle. Any ideas?

They will stamp the MOT as reg changed to XXX XXX and should then issue you with a new tax disk. There will be a form but I don't know of a fee. Your post office will tell you all of this and give oyu the address of your nearest DVLA licensing office - there may be a journey in it for you.
Quite frankly the dealer should have done this for you - it's slack and they would know that you would have this problem. Take the car back to them explain that really you shoouldn't have to do this and you want them to sort it out and give you a courtesy car

Go to this site, Click on your local DVLA office then go and see them with all your car documents, they should be able to tax it for you, or tell you what to do.
